Our New Adventure: Adoption!

The Hubs & I just started the adoption process! We are so excited. Adoption has been a passion of ours since we were engaged, & we always knew we would adopt domestically (through a private agency that specializes in open adoption, specifically), so to be in this place is somewhat surreal. It is really exciting to see God fulfill something we have always known would happen.

We are doing what we can right now - we have filled out a lot of paperwork, we are reading 6 books that are required, & we will soon be working on our album for the birth mom to look at when choosing a family - while we wait till the end of the month for our home study to begin. It's interesting to basically be "expecting" but without the tangible evidence like what comes with pregnancy. I have bought onesies & newborn diapers simply because I wanted to do something.

I am also researching something I have never needed to research - formula. I breastfed both boys until they were one, so I have never had a need for it, fortunately. I have chosen not to attempt relactation - I respect those women who do it, I just do not at all enjoy breastfeeding & I know that the stress it would add would be really hard on all of us, & would hamper the critical bonding that needs to occur between us & baby. That being said, it is important to do what we can to boost baby's immune system as best we can, & to keep baby as healthy as possible.

Food Babe just posted this article on the best baby formula on the market. She links the homemade formula recipe recommended by the Weston A. Price Foundation. I had already researched this recipe, & watched the video posted by the Healthy Home Economist. I ordered the kit & now have almost all the essentials for making our own formula. I believe this is the best option besides breastfeeding, & it will definitely take some time & effort on our part, but we are going to give it our best shot!

I hope to share with you some of the things I learn along the way - I have found that within my circle, & within the natural blogs I read, there aren't many (as in more than one) people I can look to for advice or simply to have an experience to draw from. So I hope to share some of the things we learn & experience through the blog in hopes that it might help someone else, or possibly light a fire in others to adopt as well.

Thanks for joining us on this journey!!

  1. So proud of you for doing the research on best formulas! We were just talking about this for future reference. I'm anxious to hear how it goes!
